CONFUSED

Buddha the enlightened one has never said not to eat meat, so Buddhists all around the world eat flesh. Buddha also believed in the laws of 'cause and effect' (karma), originally preached by lord Krishna, Ironically Buddha's preaching starts with Ahimsa, meaning non-voilence. I am confused, help me answer these:

1. Is it Buddhist to eat flesh?
2. Did Buddha, who asked his followers to practise mindfullness leave the question of flesh eating to logically think to his followers? ( meaning killing is bad so is eating flesh, meat is, most of the time available after slaughtering). Or,
3.  Buddha himself found it irresistable to  meat? Remember he is known to have given up all his desires.  It is known that Buddha himself ate flesh,( the cause of his death was diarrhoea triggered by eating stale pork)
